GLAUBENSSYSTEME / BELIEF-SYSTEMS
Annual Conference of the
Austrian Studies Association
May 2-5, 2013
University of Waterloo
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
Belief-systems, be they a world-view, a philosophy, a religion, an ideology, or concepts of what is natural and what is not, shape our cultures at their most fundamental levels. Whether they are aimed at personal enlightenment, group membership, political power, religious salvation, or structures of class, ethnicity and gender, belief-systems guide the way people think, organize, and interact.
This conference will seek to explore the variety of belief-systems that have shaped Austrian culture both past and present through literature, film, theatre, and music, but also in natural and medical sciences, history, politics and society.
Due to the broadness of the conference's topic interdisciplinary approaches as well as submission from colleagues in related fields are especially encouraged. Papers not linked directly to the conference theme will also be considerered.
