Accommodations
The Henry is providing
us with a conference rate of $125 plus tax. The cut-off date for
accepting reservations into the Austrian Studies Association Room Block
was March 4, 2015! Those of you in the hotel will be joined by
competitive dancers as the Michigan Dance Challenge is being held there.
For those of you who do not yet have a room:
*The closest options are: Adoba or Extended Stay America-Dearborn. Both are on Town Center Dr. Other hotels that are close are the Courtyard Detroit Dearborn (Marriott) and the Comfort Inn Greenfield Village. For the latter two you definitely need a car. Parking at the hotels and the university is free.
Moving from the hotel to the University
The conference hotel as well as Adoba and Extended Stay
America-Dearborn are a 20-25 minute walk to the University. However, not
the most pleasant, it skirts the Fairlane Mall parking lot and
sidewalks are few and far between. There will be a shuttle running
between the hotel and the campus. Details to follow.
The Henry provides a van service for limited distances with up to 4 persons. Reservations need to be made. However, if you want to venture more than a few miles beyond the hotel, you will absolutely need a car.
Travel
The Detroit Metro Airport is approximately 13 miles from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the conference hotel, The Henry. The airport, served by most airlines, has two terminals, one for Delta, KLM, and Air France, and one for other airlines, such as US Airways and Lufthansa.
- For information on the Detroit Metro Airport: Travel Info
- For shuttles: See Rideskoot airport shuttle, Metro Cars, a company that partners with The Henry, and Metro Detroit Shuttle Service
- At present, rental cars from the airport run at about $35-40 a day. The hotel provides free parking and there is free visitor parking at the University.
- For the adventures with lots of time — public transportation
